About Bosk
A field notebook for the living world. Bosk exists to help more people notice, understand and look after the living world around them.
Why Bosk
Bosk is an old word for a small wood: a thicket, a patch of trees you could cross in an afternoon. It is the kind of place that sits at the edge of a town and gets walked through without a second thought. We started Bosk because the nature in a city park, a back garden or a canal path is easy to miss and easy to take for granted, and a good guide in your pocket changes that.
What we believe
- Notice more. Most people walk past hundreds of species a day. A camera, a microphone and a little help turn that into a name, a story and a place on a map.
- Understand it. A species is not a label. Where it lives, when it shows up and how it is doing are what make it worth caring about.
- Look after it. What you see adds up. Sightings, shared with care, help show where nature is thriving and where it needs a hand.
What Bosk does
- Identify. Photo and sound identification with honest confidence: Bosk asks you to confirm before it writes anything down.
- Record. Every sighting is dated and placed, and your Wild List grows one species at a time.
- Explore. A worldwide field guide, a map of what is around you, and walks that remember what you met along the way.
- Connect. Friends and community sightings today, and a small marketplace for nature experiences, events and swaps coming soon.
How we work
Bosk is independent and built in Germany. Identification will sometimes be wrong, and we say so plainly. We credit the people and projects whose data and photographs make the app possible (see Data sources and credits), and you choose what is shared (see the Privacy Policy).
Work with us
We partner with schools, parks departments, municipalities and conservation groups who want more people noticing nature. Write to mary@bosk.world.
